LPMPC’s Optical and Medical Mission transforms its main office into a vibrant healthcare hub, providing comprehensive wellness services to members and the surrounding community. This special initiative goes beyond basic check-ups to offer complete vision care including eye pressure tests, refraction assessments, and free reading glasses distribution alongside general medical consultations, basic diagnostic screenings, and preventive health education. Staffed by volunteer ophthalmologists, optometrists, and physicians, the mission addresses both immediate health concerns and long-term wellness needs in a single, accessible location.

What makes this service exceptional is its integrated approach to whole-person care. Patients receiving eye exams can simultaneously consult with medical doctors about chronic conditions, while health educators provide personalized guidance on nutrition and disease prevention. “We designed this mission to remove barriers to care,” explains the program coordinator. “Members can get their eyes checked, consult about diabetes, and learn healthy cooking – all in one visit.” The event particularly benefits seniors and low-income families, many of whom receive their first-ever eye examination. By combining optical and medical services with health empowerment education, LPMPC demonstrates how cooperatives can creatively address healthcare disparities while living their principle of concern for community.
